Guru-Disciple Relationship

Yesterday I didn’t start with this important instruction:  Do not, under any circumstances, believe what you are about to read.  Instead, investigate it yourself.  Determine, through your own reasoning and experience, whether it’s true.

The guru-disciple relationship is a hot button topic.  People have such strong feelings about it.  For some, it seems cult-like.  Others have concerns about bowing to another person or seeing someone as a master or giving another person total control over their lives.  These concerns exist because problems have happened in the past or these customs are outside our own culture.  So, let’s talk about what this relationship is and is not.

Last weekend we held our “Who Are You?” weekend retreat.  Every time I get to take part in this retreat, I feel awestruck as I watch the changes in people unfold right before my eyes.  One question that came from the retreat was about gurus.  This question comes up again and again and I could write pages and pages on the subject.  Let’s see if I can answer some of the questions in brief. Something Great About Being Late

So, Tuesday night I arrived late to teach at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork (map).  If you know me, then you know that being late is a form of stealing and is one of my cardinal rules for class:  No Stealing.  What was so important that I felt it was worth arriving late?  As a side note, I want to thank Judy again for stepping up to lead the class until I arrived.

November Satsang: Who Are You?
